Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Oman sign MoU on construction of transport corridor

6 August 2014

Foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding on Aug.6 on the entry into force of the agreement to construct a transport corridor that will link these countries, Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The agreement to create a new international transport corridor that will link the Central Asian countries to the Persian Gulf ports, was signed in April 2011.

The transport corridor will run through Iran's territory and link the Central Asian countries to Iranian ports in the Persian and Oman gulfs.

"The implementation of the agreement will be a turning point in the interregional relations and will allow to significantly expand the mutually beneficial ties between the countries of the region. It will give a significant impetus to the economic development of the participating countries," the ministry said.

The quadripartite ministerial meeting on creating the transport corridor was held in Muscat (Sultanate of Oman). Uzbek delegation was headed by the country's Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
