Uzbekistan, Italy to produce gas fuel systems for cars

1 July 2014

Uzavtosanoat Joint Stock Company (JSC) and the Italian Landi Renzo S.p.A. established a new joint venture (JV) for the production of gas fuel systems for cars.

The new enterprise, which is called Avtosanoat - Landi Renzo, will work in the territory of the Navoi Special Economic Zone (FIEZ), Trend Agency reported.

The enterprise's projected capacity will amount to 25,000 sets of equipment per year.

Engine compartment equipment to transfer automobiles to consumption of natural gas systems will be assembled from components supplied from Italy during the first stage of the project. Later, the localization of the production will be considered.

The cost of the project in the first phase will be .8 million.

Uzbekistan has adopted a program on the phased transfer of automobile transport to natural gas. Currently, over 300,000 or about 10 percent of vehicles work with natural gas. Transferring about 30 percent of the total number of vehicles to natural gas is planned by 2016.

Landi Renzo is one of the world leaders in the production of components and systems for using liquefied petroleum gas and methane as an alternative fuel for vehicles.

The Navoi Special Economic Zone with a territory of more than 500 hectares was established in 2008.
