Uzbek parliament prepares to ratify agreement on transit of goods to Afghanistan

http://en.trend.az/ of 6/22/2012 - Faction of the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" (Justice) in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan discussed a law on ratification of the US-Uzbek intergovernmental agreement on air transit of cargo and personnel through the country's territory in connection with U.S. participation in efforts to achieve security, stability and reconstruction of Afghanistan, the party said.

Chairman of the Legislative Chamber Committee on Defense and Security Juraev Kodir presented the bill.

During the discussions it was noted that the bill is supported by relevant departments and ministries of the country.

Uzbekistan and the U.S. signed the agreement in Tashkent on March 28.

Legislative Chamber will consider the law on ratification of the agreement in the first reading after discussing it with all factions of the parliament.

The Legislative Chamber of Uzbek Parliament has 150 MPs elected in December 2009 for a term of five years from the four political parties and the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan.

The faction of the Liberal Democratic Party is represented by 53 MPs, People's Democratic Party - 32 MPs, the Democratic Party "Milly Tiklanish" (National Revival) - 31 MPs, the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" - 19 MPs. Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan is represented by 15 MPs.
