First ever ventilator made in Tajikistan

21 May 2020

A stock of medical supplies and personal protective equipment financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was delivered on May 12 to Tajikistan's Ministry of Healthcare and Social Protection of Population to support the country's response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, ADB Tajikistan Resident Mission said.

The supplies costing about $100,000 comprise 25 items, including masks, gloves, gowns, protective suits, thermoscanners, hygiene sets, antiseptics, various tubes, and other medical stuff.

As of May 12, the Tajik Ministry of Healthcare and Social Protection of Population reported 729 confirmed COVID-19 cases across the country, including 23 deaths.

ADB says it is in constant contact with the Tajik government, the World Health Organization, and other related partners, and stands ready to provide further assistance as required.

Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998, and to date ADB has approved over $1.8 billion assistance for the country, including more than $1.3 billion in grants.
