Coca-Cola’s response to COVID-19 Pandemic in Kyrgyzstan
From April and until further notice, Coca-Cola has put commercial advertising for all our brands on hold globally, including in Kyrgyzstan. Our focus at this time is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our associates and communities. To this end, The Coca-Cola Company, our bottling partners and The Coca-Cola Foundation are donating over 120 million Dollars to support COVID-19 relief efforts in the affected communities. Our immediate support is directed towards the provision of protective equipment and beverages for health workers and the delivery of food supplies to vulnerable groups.
Today, we have announced a donation of $100,000 to Kyrgyzstan through The Coca-Cola Foundation. In collaboration with Red Crescent Kyrgyzstan, we will provide humanitarian aid to 5,700 households in need across the country. Each household will receive a package containing essential food and hygiene items and domestic chemicals.
Along with this, we have been donating bottled Bonaqua water to quarantine zones, medical workers, volunteers in Bishkek, Osh, Jalal-Abad and other cities in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, local administrations and Red Crescent.
Protecting the health and safety of our employees is our priority, therefore we have taken a number of measures on that front. The Coca-Cola plant and our vehicles undergo daily disinfection. All employees are provided with medical masks and disinfectants. Conditions for working remotely have been created for employees of various functions, where possible. Employees can also take advantage of paid leave.
We appreciate the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan on containing the spread of COVID-19 in the country and ensuring health and safety of the population during these difficult times. Despite a steep decline in sales, Coca-Cola is committed to do everything we can to maintain employment and support our customers and consumers in Kyrgyzstan.
During the past 5 years, Coca-Cola’s activities in the country supported on average 3,500 jobs annually. According to the assessment of the socio-economic impact of the Coca-Cola System in Kyrgyzstan, recently carried out by Ernst & Young, each direct workplace in our company created additional 11 jobs in other sectors of the Kyrgyz economy in 2019. And every 1 som of wages received by employees of our company generated additional 4.3 soms of wages to employees of the organizations in our supply, distribution and sales chains. We therefore realize that our responsibility extends much further than just to our own employees. We wish Kyrgyzstan soonest recovery from COVID and will continue playing an active role in the fight against pandemic as a responsible corporate citizen.
