Construction of international trade center to start at Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan border

10 March 2020

Construction of a Central Asia International Center of Trade and Economic Cooperation will soon commence on the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan's Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov said, Trend reports with reference to the minister's social networks.

Sultanov reminded that the corresponding agreement was signed nearly two years ago.

"The center is an important element of trade cooperation in Central Asian region. Both wholesale and retail trade facilities and adjacent infrastructure alongside important transport and logistics center will be created here. In conditions of economic instability in the world, prices decrease, coronavirus threats to international trade and decrease in tourism, the intensification of trade with neighbors is the best way to deal with crisis together," Sultanov wrote.

He added that creation of the center will allow to strengthen economy cooperation between two countries and the center itself will become one of the key projects of South-North, North-South transport corridors, as well as will become a part of a greater goods' turnover from the region to other countries.

"Implementation of this construction project not only will open gates to the south for Kazakhstan, but it will allow our Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to build a single mechanism for the joint export of goods to third countries, primarily to Russia, China and countries of Europe," Sultanov said.
