Uzbek Foreign Ministry says accession into Eurasian Economic Union beneficial for Uzbekistan

27 December 2019

Uzbekistan mulls benefits of accession into the Eurasian Economic Union, First Deputy Foreign Minister Ilhom Nematov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He said Uzbekistan needs to join the grouping to boost its exports.

"We need market," he said.

The population of Uzbekistan is growing for 700,000 yearly and the government can't create jobs for all. This forces people to leave the country to work abroad. After accession in the Union, Uzbek migrants will get better conditions of work in Russia and Kazakhstan, he said.

He said the accession into the Eurasian Economic Union is considered on a top level. The talks are held with Russia.

Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko announced the plan of Uzbekistan to join the grouping in October. She said the respective decision was made by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
