Construction of toll roads in Uzbekistan expected since 2021

11 December 2019

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved the roadmap for construction of toll roads as public-private partnership projects.

Construction of two toll tunnels on the Kamchik pass (Tashkent and Namangan regions) and Tahtakarachi pass (Kashkadarya) and 3 toll roads - Syrdarya-Bakht bypass road, Tashkent-Samarkand and Tashkent-Andijan.

The roadmap suggests attraction of specialist of the World Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as consultants. Feasibility studies are planned for 2020-2021. Tenders and awarding contracts are planned from April 2021 to March 2022.

The plan to build the first toll road was announced in September 2018. The investment agreement was signed with the consortium of Turkish companies, Cengiz-Kolin-Kalyon. Construction was supposed to start in 2019-2020. Germany's GP Günter Papenburg was named as another partner in construction of toll roads.

In early December, Deputy Prime Minister Elyor Ganiev explained the delay in construction of Tashkent-Samarkand toll road with a toll fee asked by a foreign investor.
