Press Release: Six Central Asian Ambassadors Discussed Business Opportunities in Central Asia

On March 29, 2019, the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, the US-Kyrgyzstan Business Council, the US-Tajikistan Business Council and the recently launched US-Afghanistan Business Initiative organized an unprecedented panel discussion with the Ambassadors of Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to discuss regional business opportunities. The panel's special guest, Lisa Curtis, Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for South and Central Asia of the National Security Council, delivered opening remarks and emphasized the importance of economic cooperation between the United States and Central Asian countries.  The event took place in the Washington, D.C. office of Baker McKenzie and was moderated by Baker partner Tom Firestone.

This unique event offered a strong message to the US business community about the scale of the Central Asian market, the new opportunities that it presents, and its stronger regional cooperation to facilitate market access and establish a reliable and transparent legal environment.  The Ambassadors also identified high priority sectors and their significance to the national economy.

The organizers of the event look forward to further discussions on the issues that are pertinent to the American business community interested in Central Asia and to expanding the US business community's presence in the region.  Special thanks to the US-Kazakhstan Business Council and the US-Turkmenistan Business Council for their support for this event.
