AUCC Statement on the 2018 U.S.-Uzbekistan Signing Ceremony
On May 15, 2018, The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) marked its 25th anniversary by welcoming the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Shavkat M. Mirziyoyev, and members of his Cabinet to the United States of America. Earlier that day, a prominent group of AUCC members from well-known U.S. corporations held a signing ceremony in the DC offices of White and Case LLP to solidify and strengthen their business ties with the Republic of Uzbekistan through an estimated USD4.85 billion of agreements in sectors such as energy, oil and gas, healthcare, agriculture, and legal services, among others. The ceremony was a true celebration of the new and ambitious chapter in U.S.-Uzbekistan trade and investment relations.
Opening the signing ceremony, which was well attended by high-level representatives of the U.S. and Uzbek Governments, AUCC Chairperson Carolyn Lamm congratulated our countries' leadership on such a historical summit and acknowledged the magnitude of efforts from the Uzbek president aimed at liberalizing the nation's economy and introducing best business practices that help eradicate corruption, institute new standards of governance and management, and transform the image of Uzbekistan internationally. Chairperson Lamm urged American companies to consider Uzbekistan's eagerness to introduce the latest and most advanced US technologies to domestic industries and create value-added processes that can help capture external markets. She also expressed hope that the ceremony would give further impetus to Uzbekistan's underutilized business potential and initiate more "win-win" projects that are in the interests of the American and Uzbek peoples. "We are confident that this bilateral signing will create new jobs in the U.S. and the Republic of Uzbekistan, promote economic growth and stability, and lead to greater prosperity and social well-being", concluded Chairperson Lamm.
Throughout the day, many attendees noted the significant role that AUCC members have played in the advancing bilateral business relations. The majority of AUCC members have been active in the Uzbek market since the early days of independence, and their successes and achievements have encouraged newer businesses and investors to enter the market. For more than 25 years, the chamber's companies have been the strongest supporters of expanded bilateral trade relations that create social and economic benefits for our nations and enable them to achieve greater economic stability and financial prosperity.
