AUCC Statement on US-Uzbekistan Business Forum and Presidential Dinner in New York
On Wednesday, September 20th, the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) hosted a high-level delegation of Uzbek officials led by President Shavkat M. Mirziyoyev in Park Hyatt Hotel New York in New York City, New York.
Wednesday's two-part event, consisting of the US-Uzbekistan Business Forum during the day and Presidential Dinner in the evening, was the culmination of the US-Uzbekistan business partnership that was established shortly after the birth of the free Republic of Uzbekistan in 1993 with the emergence of AUCC. Both American companies and the Uzbek government signed deals and contracts worth more than $2.6 billion. Uzbekistan, additionally, procured investments totaling $750 million, thus, bringing the bilateral economic relations soaring to new heights. Such monumental undertakings are merely all in a day's work for the country's dynamic, new leader.
President Mirziyoyev was in New York City to address the convocation of the United Nations General Assembly and joined the dinner with a diverse group of Fortune 100 executives. During the dinner, the President set several benchmarks for U.S. companies and their Uzbek counterparts to deliver results that will bring many more economic opportunities to both the American and Uzbek peoples. At the dinner's conclusion, President Mirziyoyev invited the AUCC to hold the next US-Uzbekistan Annual Business Forum in the ancient city of Samarkand in 2018. The AUCC immediately accepted this rather generous offer and looks forward to holding next year's events at this grand terminus of the Silk Road.
In the view of AUCC Chairperson Carolyn Lamm: "It was evident that the many guests of Wednesday's historic affair were inspired not only by the signing of so many MoUs, but the president's economic vision for his country as a whole and the exciting path to greater economic development to come throughout the Mirziyoyev administration. President Mirziyoyev has taken immediate steps to facilitate foreign investment and eliminate corruption. He has demonstrated he is an open, engaging, business-oriented visionary that any country would undoubtedly be proud to have as a head of state." "Economic improvement of the lives of 30 million is one of the primary goals of President Mirziyoyev. Clearly, he is well on his way to giving Uzbekistan its best years yet. The AUCC is both honored and thrilled to have had him as the guest of honor at our signature event of the year", concluded the AUCC Chairperson. The AUCC was proud to present President Mirziyoyev with an award for Exceptional Leadership in Promotion of Foreign Investment, Economic Development, and Business Growth.
The AUCC looks forward to many more events with President Mirziyoyev and partnerships between the Uzbek government and its members. In particular, holding the U.S.-Uzbekistan Annual Business Forum, at the invitation of the Uzbek Government in Samarkand in Spring 2018. U.S. Companies that are interested in joining AUCC and traveling to Uzbekistan should submit their expression of interest to email@example.com.
