Uzbekistan and Italy explore trade potential

1 April 2015

Uzbekistan’s Fund for support of exports of small and private businesses and the "Italy-Uzbekistan" joint chamber of commerce have signed a Memorandum of Understanding and agreed to cooperate in establishing close business ties between entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and Italy, the Jahon information agency reported.

The document was signed late last week during a meeting of the Fund’s representatives with Luigi Iperti, the president of the “Italy-Uzbekistan” joint chamber of commerce.

Their negotiations discussed further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as establishing and strengthening mutual business ties. At the meeting the Fund presented Uzbekistan’s export potential and conditions created to support exports.

The Italian guest expressed big interest in participation of Uzbek businessmen in trade fairs of textile, wine-making, and agricultural industries in Italy and offered his assistance in organizational issues. He also welcomed the idea to export Uzbek capers, wine, and honey to Italy.

The Uzbek export support fund also invited Italian importing companies, supermarket chains, and other interested organizations to take part in an international conference of the food and textile industries which will be held on April 29 and 30 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

It is notable that in January 2013 the Mayor’s office of Samarkand city and the Administration of Italy’s Florence province signed an Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation.
