The Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov today hosted the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum, the Foreign Ministry said.
The minister Kamilov accepted the copies of credentials and wished the new Ambassador successes in his activities.

GM Uzbekistan resumed R4 and R2 models supplies to Ukraine on May 23. As reported earlıer, the company export cars to Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Also, the assembly of GM cars is set up at the SaryarkaAvtoProm plant in Kostanay, Kazakhstan.

Although Uzbek automotive brand Ravon has suspended its activity in Russia, there are signals that it will soon return to the Russian market.
“Uzbek cars Ravon can return to the Russian market already this year,” Rashid Temrezov, the Head of Russia’s Karachay-Cherkess Republic, said in a message to local MPs. He noted that cars will be assembled at the Derways plant in Cherkessk.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Using Renewable Energy Bill into Law. According to the document, producers of renewable energy and renewable energy units within their authority are entitled to:
-participate in the preparing and implementation of state and other programs in the field of the use of renewable energy;

Uzbekistan plans to split up its state energy company amid efforts to boost efficiency, improve transparency, and attract foreign capital.
The overhaul comes as Central Asia’s most populous nation -- and one of the top three natural-gas producers in the former Soviet Union -- opens up after decades of isolation. The government has stepped up efforts to bring in more outside investment as it targets a 17% increase in gas production by 2025.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $170 million loan to improve Uzbekistan’s locomotive fleet through procurement of 24 ultra-modern electric locomotives.
The new locomotives will improve the railway system efficiency by offering cleaner, more reliable and efficient passenger and freight services.
Cindy Malvicini, Country Director for Uzbekistan, said that transport and communications are critical for the growth and development of landlocked Uzbekistan, and remain a priority for ADB’s support for the country.

On May 20, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with promising investment projects planned to be implemented in the city of Tashkent.
At an off-the-schedule session of Tashkent City Kengash of People's Deputies on 21 December 2018, tasks were outlined to transform the capital into a large business center by actively attracting investments and establishing modern enterprises. On 4 January 2019, a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On additional measures to attract foreign direct investments into the infrastructure development of Tashkent city" was adopted.

Ten agreements for $150 million were signed at the Uzbekistan-U.S.-Canada business forum, in Navoi on May 17, including 5 in investment and trade and 5 in education, health care, and twin city relations, the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan reported.

AKIPRESS.COM - UNECE will help Uzbekistan in preparation of the national action plan for integrated water management, water supply and sanitation, the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said.
Such agreement was reached at the meeting of State Environmental Protection Committee Chairman Bahrom Kuchkarov and UNECE Executive Secretary Olga Algayerova on the sidelines of the 2019 meetings of the COPs to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions from April 29-May 10.

On May 6, 2019, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the Article IV consultation with the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In 2018, GDP growth picked up moderately to 5 percent as adverse weather impacted agriculture and bottlenecks in energy and water slowed economic growth, despite strong investment growth. Consumer inflation had fallen to 14½ percent by end-2018, but rapid credit growth, price liberalization, public wage adjustments, and high inflation expectations will maintain price pressures in 2019.

On May 8, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of the jewelry industry and the expansion of conditions for jewelry manufacturers, Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.
Until recently, this industry received little attention in Uzbekistan. Eighty percent of the equipment of jewelry enterprises was worn out and some enterprises stopped the production.

The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan has proposed to abolish cement import benefits, which were introduced in January 2018, Trend reports with reference to Esmerk CIS News.
The government suggested that the abolition of the benefits will create a competitive market and lead to more efficient production of building materials in the country.
Uzbekistan’s leading supplier of imported cement is Kazakhstan, which supplied 1500 tons of cement in November 2018.

During the trip, the Uzbek delegation was familiarized with the work of the UK Government Digitalization Service. In addition, the Uzbek specialists were informed about the strategy on digital transformation in Britain and the country's experience in creating digital data.
Members of the delegation also met with Ben Terrett, Director of Public Digital company that introduced online filing and voter registration programs, and Andrew Greenway, the main cooperation partner of this company.

Uzbekistan Pochtasi JSC and the South Korean corporation Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum of cooperation, Trend reports with reference to the official website of the Uzbekistan Post.
The parties approved the provisions that formed the basis for the signed memorandum during a meeting held back in April 2019.
Samsung highly appreciates the initiative of Uzbekistan Pochtasi to introduce digital technologies into the postal infrastructure, the news report says.

The serial production of Hyundai electric cars in the Kokand free economic zone is scheduled to begin by 2023, the Uzbekistan 24 reported.
Construction of 10 thousand electric vehicles per year capacity plant will begin in 2021. The South Korean Hyundai, Evergreen Motors (the official distributor of KIA and Hyundai in the CIS), the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and the Ferghana Governor's Office are the stakeholders in the US$ 300 million project, which will 1,000 jobs.

The Mingbulakneft joint venture founded by Uzbekneftegaz and the Chinese CNPC obtained the first oil from the Mingbulak field in Namangan province, the Ministry of Energy said.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the main difficulties in developing the Mingbulak field are reportedly the depths (from 6000 m and more); high reservoir pressure (over 115 MPa) and reservoir temperature (over 168 degrees Celsius).
CNPC has applied its experience based on the development of similar fields in the Tarim Basin of China, the ministry added.

Vice-President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Shixin Chen and Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister, ADB Governor for Republic of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev signed loan agreements for the Horticulture Value Chain Infrastructure Project and the Second Tashkent Province Water Supply Development Project during ADB Annual Meeting in Fiji, Trend reports with reference to ADB.
At the bilateral meeting, VP Chen and Ganiyev also discussed the upcoming country partnership strategy for Uzbekistan, the 2019 assistance pipeline, and regional cooperation projects.

The Senate of Uzbekistan approved a law at a plenary meeting on Friday that provides a number of benefits for producers and consumers of renewable energy sources, Trend reports with reference to the Senate Information Center.
"The Senate today approved the law on the use of renewable energy sources," a representative of the upper house of parliament said.
He stated that the document, which defines the main directions of state policy in this area, was sent for signature to the president.

The mission of International Monetary Fund (IMF) updated the transparency assessment in the fiscal area of Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to IMF.
Transparency indicators of Uzbekistan improved on the eight principles of the IMF Code compared to the assessment conducted in June 2018. Now Uzbekistan complies with 23 of the 36 principles of the Code.

Deputy Foreign Minister Alisher Abdualiyev, yesterday met with the head of the production department of the Roca Group (Spain), Francisco Luis Villa and discussed the prospects for the implementation of the project for the of sanitary ware and ceramic tile manufacturing unit initiated by the Embassy of our country in Madrid in Tashkent province.
Villa Francisco Luis told that following the study of the Uzbekistan's raw material base and its market, the company had decided to set up the Roca brand sanitary ware and ceramic tiles production in Tashkent province with further expansion to other provinces.
The Uzbek officials briefed the guests on the reform efforts being undertaken to improve Uzbekistan's investment climate and the demand for building materials, as well as in neighboring countries, particularly in Afghanistan.

Washington, DC- On April 17, 2019, the United States and Uzbekistan took an important step to enhance cooperation in natural resources by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. Geological Survey and the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Geology and Mineral Resources.
