Uzbekistan May Boost Investment Flow from EU Through Co-Op with EPCA

Ongoing negotiations between the EU and Uzbekistan for an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) could pave the way for more trade and investment, European Commission’s representative told Trend in an interview. "The start of European Investment Bank (EIB) operations in Uzbekistan in 2017 to support public and private sector projects in the areas of infrastructure, energy and energy efficiency, and assist SMEs in the country is one of these examples," the representative noted. EBRD Investing up to $40M in Uzbekistan's Retail Sector

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is investing up to $40 million in direct equity in the Uzbekistan's Anglesey Food company, the operator of the korzinka.uz supermarket chain in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Uzbek media. Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), part of the Executive Office of the US President, has announced its decision to terminate the practice of hearings that examined the applicability of the General System of Preferences (GSP) to Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the press service of Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry. "Following the consideration of the parties' submissions and the materials submitted, the Office of the US Trade Representative decided to maintain the application of duty free trade regime in Uzbekistan and to close the hearing on the issue of intellectual property," the statement said.
